Global warming, climate crisis and human crimes…

The so-called global warming, the phenomenon of climate change or climate crisis as it is called nowadays, which is mainly caused by human activity, is a phenomenon that troubles science and current affairs. The climate crisis with the changes it brings is high on the international agendas of discussions in various forums, conferences of global organisations and governments.

A portion of people in various countries deny the fact that the planet is experiencing a climate change, it is something they dispute. But in recent years we see and experience unprecedented catastrophic floods, frequent severe bad weather in various regions of the planet (a phenomenon we have seen happening in Greece as well), prolonged drought, melting of ice, strong and frequent hurricanes and cyclones in various parts of the world, snow in areas of the earth where it did not used to snow until recently (in the Sahara desert for example, in parts of Africa, but also in the Middle East), as well as other extreme and frequent phenomena. The fact is that something is beginning to change on our planet, that something is wrong. And it makes sense if we think about it…

When our activities destroy the ozone, when we pollute the air we breathe, our atmosphere, when we fill the environment with plastic rubbish and dump nuclear waste in the seas, when we carry out nuclear tests, when overconsumption plagues the planet, especially in the ‘western’ world, when we burn our forests (and do not tell me now that fires are only the result of lightning or the excessive heat of the sun in dry conditions, because they are also the result of deliberate arson. Several times evidence has been found here in Greece at least, that it is purely deliberate arson in some cases and even some people have been arrested), when we turn cities into cement cities, when instead of reforestation of burnt areas we place wind turbines, when we do not set limits and do not observe any existing rules in the operation of factories, big industries, then what exactly do we expect?. . . How much longer will the planet endure our impunity?

And what exactly is the solution? To simply put taxes on the environment continuing the same damaging activities? Is that all it takes; taxes; do they really help the environment or do they only help the coffers and pockets of some? Does it produce any spectacular – meaningful results?

The solution is to stop, or at least really drastically reduce all those causes and activities that damage and destroy the planet. The solution is real, effective laws to protect the ecosystem that apply to all, everything and everyone, with no exceptions or under-the-table agreements, the solution is severe penalties for those individuals, corporations, or states that do not respect environmental protection laws and nature. The solution is to reforest all burned areas and ban all other activity on them, and protect/monitor them with the help of modern technology. The solution is the cultivation of a global, meaningful ecological education and consciousness in all of us. Let us finally understand that human fate and existence is not something separate or something neutral but that it is common and intertwined with the fate of animals and the whole planet.

These are the most important things and should be above all economic gain, so that we understand…
