November 25 – International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. According to official statistics, thousands of women and girls lose their lives worldwide every year due to gender-based violence. Many others experience psychological, digital, sexual, verbal, or economic abuse.
Today, more than any other day, I cannot stop thinking that all these women who were lost to gender-based violence — could have been our friends, sisters, mothers, colleagues, neighbors, relatives, classmates, our own loved ones. Their loss is not just a number in statistics… Their memories must never be forgotten.
As long as we remember them, as long as we speak their names, as long as we talk about them, a flame remains alive — a flame that reminds us why we must never stay silent! It is imperative that we discover who we truly are, recognize the power within us, and promote solidarity on a global level.
To all women experiencing violence or abuse of any kind: you are not alone. Your experiences do not define who you are, your worth, or the strength within you. Take care of yourselves — you are precious and enough. Listen to the voice within you and act in whatever way you can, in a manner that suits your situation and ensures your safety. Some cases may require special, careful, and delicate handling. Consult professionals, seek help, and always prioritize your safety.
Let us stand by every woman — for all of us and for those who are no longer with us — their memory becomes our strength, and their voices call us and guide our actions, until the day finally comes when every woman on the planet can live free, safe, and without fear.
