First of December: Today is World HIV Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness, promoting prevention, and supporting people living with the virus. Advances in science over recent years have transformed the lives of people living with HIV: modern antiretroviral therapy allows individuals to live long, fulfilling lives, with a quality of life comparable to the general population.

Prevention remains fundamental. The use of protection, regular testing, and education are among the most effective tools. Yet today, we do not only remember the scientific achievements of the present. We also honour the memory of those who lost their lives to HIV in previous decades, reminding us that the fight continues, and that awareness, solidarity, and scientific progress remain our most powerful allies.

People living with HIV deserve to live free from social stigma and discrimination.

Let us continue to educate ourselves and support one another. Through knowledge, prevention, and solidarity, we can live in a world where HIV does not stand in the way of a life full of dignity, quality, and wholeness.
