One measure in all…

Written by Christina Margeti

Pretty much by and large we all, everyone has a small or big passion, a daily habit that pleases us really or illusively. Some habits are more harmless even seemingly, others not so harmless overtly. Perhaps for example we are pleased by eating sweets, or good food, or prepared food. Maybe it’s having a glass or two of wine with our food. Of course this is not a bad thing. But it becomes bad if we lose balance, if we lose moderation and get carried away with excesses and abuses often, even daily.

Too much food, especially a diet that does not contain fruits, salads, legumes, harms our body, our health, especially if there is no exercise, sport at the same time. Too much wine or any other alcoholic drink if we consume it in large quantities and too often, or even worse and daily, out of sheer pleasure, there is a risk of becoming an addiction. If we sometimes buy a lottery ticket, scratch cards, play a game of chance in general, it’s okay. But if we do it frequently/everyday, spending all our money on it instead of, say, covering our living needs and financial outgoings then yes, there is a problem. It’s one thing to actually gamble once in a while, wisely and sensibly and another thing to be addicted, gambling.

The problem is that most of the time those who have the problem don’t recognize it. They rather don’t want to see it, to admit it. But the first serious move that will help you to free yourself from a not-so-good habit-addiction, the first important, crucial step, is precisely to be able to perceive the problem, to admit the situation, the addiction, so that you are able to ask for help, to fight it. If you want to, of course, if you really want to. Otherwise you can continue to pretend that you don’t see it, don’t understand it, fooling yourself. Of course there are other destructive habits besides the gambling addiction I mentioned as an example above, addictions and dependencies that have destroyed so many lives and so many people.

Like drugs for example. Remember that only you can control your life and create the life you want, your present and your future by your actions and decisions. With your mind and your will. Remember also that we can always put good habits in place of any bad habits. Walking three times a week, going to the gym, a little jockeying every morning or as often as we can, reading a good book once a week, a hobby or sport that we enjoy, getting into the habit of drinking juices, tea, herbs and so on every day, a trip somewhere every three months, six months, a year, depending on the possibilities mae. So many good and beautiful habits exist, let’s think about which ones can be implemented in our daily schedules and replace our not positive habits.
