Femicide…

Written by Christina Margeti

I remember what reaction the term “femicide” used to cause in the past. They were claiming the obvious of course and the obvious that we are all human beings, but refusing to get to the point: the gender violence that the term so faithfully denotes and is the correct statement of the grim reality and unfortunately nowadays, almost daily reality. Women unknown to us, or perhaps known to us, of every age, of every social class, of every nationality, of every religious or non-religious persuasion, are victims of bigoted criminals, victims at the hands of bipedal beasts raised with the patriarchal propaganda and mentality that supposedly the whole world belongs to them, that they are the centre of the world, that a woman has no right to reject them, to say no, or to divorce them, depending on each circumstance that each victim has experienced or is experiencing. That is why it is imperative that we fight this system, this mentality, because literally and figuratively patriarchy kills. In many cases we see the police’s negligence, perhaps even the reluctance of some police officers to do the obvious, the reasonable thing, in relation to a parallel legal reality, at least until recently, which required first to do harm and then to intervene… We have also seen some cases more than a few times, of perpetrators being arrested and after a few hours/days walking free, but we have also seen women killers “convicted” of murder/misogyny “going soft” and after a few years in prison being free relatively soon, while their victims are in the ground… Clearly there are men who are victims of violence and abuse by other men and or women no one denies this I think, cases equally and equally damning. And of course unprovoked violence when not an act of physical self defense is always a crime that should be brought to justice. But real justice, for all victims not just on paper and fake justice…

We must react strongly against all this crime, femininity, all this violence. Let’s not allow any more victimization. Let us know and recognize our abilities, our value and our power, fighting for all the obvious things that should be obvious, but it seems that unfortunately they are not. Always in solidarity with each other, always united without discrimination.
