Every being experiences what we call inner spirituality in a different way and has a different way of expressing it. The journey toward knowledge is primarily a personal experience for each individual. Energy—and the intangible in general—cannot be fully captured or expressed in human words, even if we occasionally write entire texts about it.
A friend once asked me how we distinguish the genuine from the fake. It was a question I’d asked myself a long time ago. How do we tell, for example, if an energy healer is legitimate or if a teacher is truly good? How do we know if they actually have a positive impact on our lives? The answer is simple:
Everyone is judged by their actions and the consequences of those actions. For example, if you have a session to address a personal issue of your own (always in accordance with the Law of Non-Harm) but you notice that instead of improving, things are getting worse, then that should tell you something. In this case, it would be wise to look into it and probably not continue with the same energy healer or teacher in general. Especially if this happens repeatedly in every energy session, seminar, or whatever.
The only thing that really matters is the results. Don’t focus on someone’s outward appearance or pretty words. These should never be our criteria when looking for someone to start our sessions with. In general, it’s best not to rely on appearances. When someone spouts lofty philosophies without backing them up with consistent behavior, it means absolutely nothing. Anyone can project a “spiritual” image—wearing New Age clothing and amulets, growing out their hair and beard, and posing for photos in nature or hugging animals. All of this, however, is merely a facade, and if it is not accompanied by the corresponding inner substance, it simply reveals hypocrisy or self-interest.
At this point, I’d like to note that anyone who abuses their power—that is, uses it for wrong and negative purposes—will ultimately lose it. And it’s good to remember that. Whatever kind of energy we project outward—through our thoughts, words, intentions, and actions—always comes back to us. So it’s best not to project energy that we would never want to have returned to us.
There are other warning signs, however, that you can spot in something that isn’t genuine. Such as a lack of humility. The authentic cannot help but be genuinely humble in their manner. A true teacher does not consider themselves perfect. And this is not only because they know they are not infallible as human beings—as the popes once arrogantly considered themselves to be—but also because they know that as long as they live, they will continue to learn. That they still have new things to learn, even from their own students.
Virtues and gifts exist within every person. They may differ, but they are all precious. It is up to us to discover them by walking the path of self-knowledge. After all, within us lie all the answers and everything we seek: love, health, well-being, happiness, fulfillment, abundance. Gifts, values, and talents that every soul carries—our so-called inborn rights. In essence, the “precious gem,” meditation, the pendulum, the universe—these are us. It is the power of the mind.
Using all these tools, we practice, we work, and we move forward. Each small step we take leads us smoothly to the next—toward evolution, toward progress. From 1, we’ll move to 2. We can’t go directly to 3. Every step requires time, practice, and work on ourselves and our inner selves. So meditation, breathing exercises, energy cleansings, and positive affirmations—all are practical tools and useful means, until we finally realize that all of these lead to the same conclusion: strength lies within us and not in external factors. That, in essence, the tool that sets all the other tools in motion is our own mind, our thoughts, and our intentions.
And this is what every well-meaning teacher truly wants to teach us: to believe in the power within us. If you drink contaminated water, for example, you will get sick and your life may be at risk. That is precisely why discernment and selectivity are so valuable. So let us seek only the pure, the genuine, the familiar, and the safe waters—those that the soul recognizes. And let us always listen to the voice within us. Let us never ignore our instincts. Not only is it a shield against every danger, but it is also our guide. It reveals to us what is genuine and what is a copy; the real from the fake; the essence from the surface; the original from the imitation; the truly luminous from the “pretend” luminous.
